Environmental Commitment

If you love the great outdoors it only makes sense that you protect the environment. The Outdoors Gear Closet undeniably loves the great outdoors, so how are we helping our planet?

We have put in place a series of steps in our operations known as the 5 R's. These processes allow the OGC to fully utilize a product and extend the life of the product as much as possible. Similar to the 3 R's of recycling (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) our procedures help us limit the amount of waste that ends up in landfills.

The 5 R's

Repair
Restore
Reuse
Recycle
Reduce

When one of our products is damaged, we always try to repair and restore the product before considering replacing the item altogether. If the product is repaired and performs as intended, we can continue to utilize the product for our customers to enjoy, and ultimately avoid unnecessary waste.

In cases where the product cannot be repaired the item will either be; taken apart for us to reuse the parts individually or the parts will be used to repair and restore other gear. Only when a product and it's parts cannot be salvaged is the product thrown out, when a product is discarded all recyclable materials are recycled appropriately.

Gear that is repaired but does not meet our business standards is donated to make the outdoors more accessible to all. Just because these products cannot handle the hustle and bustle of outfitting anymore it does not mean the product cannot be used and appreciated by others before it dies on a landfill.

Our processes of Repair, Restore, Reuse and Recycle ultimately achieve the 5th and final R, Reduce. By repairing, restoring, reusing, re-purposing and recycling products and parts we reduce the overall output of waste and decrease our environmental impact.
